We stopped through Katakolon on our way to see the Olympia site in Greece.  The short drive through the country side to the site wasn’t all that spectacular, which made sense because most rave reviews you hear about Greece are about the beaches or island hopping or sailing… the closer to the water the better I guess.

The Olympia site was very cool though – there are a lot of ruins to check out and its very surreal having learned about the ancient Greeks and the origin of the Olympics in school then one day finidng yourself standing in the heart of it all.  There were a few people we talked to that made it to the site on their own (we took a bus), but FYI you can rent motorbikes or scooters and make it out there on your own.  You can also pay a little extra to take a private taxi and squeeze in a couple stops along the way.

On our way back we stopped to do some shopping and found that the store owners weren’t as soft as we thought they’d be.  One in particular was nothing but a stick in the mud, not willing to budge a penny on price, and not willing to offer deals if we bought more than one item; gives you an idea of how they like to do business.  I only mention it because there’s usually always a deal to be made with vendors like that.  But maybe they get too many tourists treating their shots like they’re in a bazaar market.
